waiting and working and changing and redoing and working a bit more.

This is the time for the nomades. This is the time where people shift, change and move so often that it becomes a lifestyle. No time for excessive consumism or more than basic confort, because the moving process implies that the luggage we carry fits easily in one small car, bus or in two arms!
After moving to East Timor, back to Portugal, Belgium, I have moved now to Amsterdam. Searching for places, cycling, checking the map in every corner… It is as tyring as fresh! But in a sence, it becomes easier everytime. Or at least I get less stressed by the “traumatic” experience of moving.
Here people look more relaxed and cosmopolitan. The city is very cosy in the center and very open in the outskirts, taking the modernist principles as a rule. Anyway…lets see where I end up living, if in the fancy center or in the flat suburbs!
More updates in short time…I hope! On Monday I will start the new job. Again – exciting and scary. In the first times even the functioning of a plotter seems extremly complex…
After a number of low percentage of sleep our office, ‘Khulna inc.’, managed to finish up the preliminary drawings we had to present to a bunch of notorious urbanists and landscape architects. The day started with the most difficult wake up from the last 2 decades, not even being able to switch of the hibernation mode with having a light breakfast. The car ride there seems to have been erased from my memory, but i’m sure my fellow highway drivers rememeber ver well…
Once you enter the doors of the office, everything changes, you’re abruptly pulled into the kilometer long influence zone of tyfoon K. S. Stress invaded the room and nestled itself into the people, luckily i am more or less immune to the concept.
Presentation started at 9.30, finished completely at 13.30 with a small coffebreak in between our two main parts, mapping (i can’t even call it analysis) and vision (which were actually also not really visions…) The comments were as i expected. We do not do a real reading of the maps we were making in terms of morphology, structures etc., but we jumped straight to a number of tools that deal mostly on landscape issues. Where was the urbanism? The comments were just, the input was good, it was a good way of going on…
The set up of the presentation…
Country Scale – Urbanization
Loeckx, Verbakel, Mousquet concentrated.
After this, we all went to the debate on water, which was quite good. We managed to all fall asleep though and since no one else was there, it was inevitable that they would notice. While Kelly was saying: ‘maybe better to round up here because they are very tired (talking about us)’, i got a undisguised blink of the eye from Ward, insinuating that i was sleeping (which i was, off course.) during lecture… Where do they get these crazy hypotheses from!!!
After those 3 hours, we – being devangi, makarand, sabina, chelo, tin and me – went back to the chateau for a sort of birthday dinner, the only possible thing left to do, because going out was not an option with this level of sleepyness… We had pasta and then pancakes with icecream and strawberries as dessert.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
I got 2 birthday presents today, funny thing is that they are both the same: 2 wallets. One from Chelo from Bolivia, a summer type, one from my mother from Freitag, like my ‘que tal’ bag. I can use them both, one for summer, the other for winter! Thanks a lot for the presents! Friday is the birthday ‘party’, bbq.
At the end of the day, we were dead…
